“Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.”

Luke 11:9-10

Luke 13:24-25

“Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are.”

“Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in and will not be able. When once the master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’”

Revelation 3:7

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.”

“To the angel of the assembly in Philadelphia write: ‘He who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says these things.”

John 10:7, 9

“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. … I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

“Jesus therefore said to them again, ‘Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door. … I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture.”

Proverbs 8:34-35

“Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.”

“Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts. For whoever finds me finds life, and will obtain favor from the LORD.”

What Scripture says

  • Knock and it will be opened (Matt 7:7-8; Luke 11:9-10).
  • Strive to enter the narrow gate; once the door is shut, knocking is too late (Luke 13:24-25) — urgency.
  • Jesus holds the key — what He opens no one shuts; what He shuts no one opens (Rev 3:7).
  • Jesus Himself stands at the door and knocks; if anyone opens, He comes in (Rev 3:20) — reciprocal.
  • Jesus IS the door; entering by Him = saved (John 10:7, 9).
  • Wisdom is found by waiting daily at her gates (Prov 8:34-35) — persistent watching.

Connections

  • To Jesus — He IS the door (John 10:9); He holds the key (Rev 3:7); He also knocks (Rev 3:20)
  • To Urgency — door can be shut (Luke 13:24-25)
  • To Persistence — watching daily at gates (Prov 8:34-35)
  • To Faith — implicit; knocking trusts the door will open

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the door, and whoever enters by You will be saved. You hold the key, and what You open no one can shut.

Thank You that You also stand at the door and knock. Give us ears to hear Your voice and hearts quick to open to You. Keep us knocking, watching and waiting at Your gates.

In Your name we pray, Amen.
